Mercedes Benz GLC: A small, light SUV to overcome challenging terrain

The all new addition to the Mercedes Benz G class is here and it’s better than ever. The new Mercedes Benz for sale is said to be the most agile SUV that Mercedes has ever made. The car has been designed to give superior handling on every kind of terrain imaginable, while still being luxurious, silent and incredibly efficient.

The new Mercedes GLC model replaces the old GLK model, which the vast majority of the motoring world loved. If this is anything to go by, the new GLC will not disappoint. Let’s go through the changes that have taken place since the GLK.

The appearance of the GLC

In comparison to the old GLK model, the Mercedes Benz GLC has a much blunter nose and a less harsh sloping roofline. The shape of the Mercedes GLC is cleaner as a whole. You get a much wider wheel base (188mm wider) which gives the GLC a more elegant profile and significantly more interior space.

The GLC is also a full eighty kilograms lighter than its predecessor. This is thanks to the use of high strength steel and aluminium used in the shell of the car and the new 9G-tronic transmission that makes use of magnesium alloys in the design and a smaller transfer case than before.

Off road the GLC is still a force to be reckoned with. This is now thanks to a 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive system that uses a multi-chamber air suspension design which maximizes the off-road ability of the new Mercedes Benz G class. As optional extras you can opt for a steeper bumpers and side running boards (off road package) or you can get the sporty Mercedes AMG plastic instead (sport package).

Opulent stylings

The inside of the Mercedes Benz GLC is very luxurious. Nappa leather, wood finishes and a lot more space for the passengers is what you will encounter when you sit inside.

There is a redesigned dashboard that makes use of a central touchpad console with a heads up display. The touchpad uses finger-gesture sensors much like a smartphone so the display is very sensitive. There is also a handwriting function that recognizes letters, numbers and special characters in any language.

The rear seats are designed to be customized so you can fit a lot in this car. You can have cargo space from 80 liters all the way up to 580 Liters, depending on how you move the seating around and 600 litres with the seats folded completely flat. If that wasn’t enough, the Mercedes GLC has air suspension which allows you to lower the back of the car by 40mm and the boot can be opened automatically simply by waving your foot under the bumper.

Under the hood of the Mercedes Benz GLC

In terms of engine choice you get four different power houses. There are two diesel variants (220d and 250d), two petrol motors (250 and 300). Each of these motors are joined to a nine-speed automatic, and then a standard manual all-wheel drive system.

The 220d and 250d both use the same two-litre turbodiesel with 125kW/400Nm and 150kW/500Nm of torque respectively. This is done at a very fuel efficient five litres per 100km.

The two-litre, turbopetrol GLC250 produces 155kW and 350Nm of torque produced at the cost of 6.6 litres per 100km. In the GLC300, the same two-litre, turbopetrol engine is upgraded to 180kW and 370Nm of torque.

On top of these powerful engines you have the ability to select between five driving programs. These are as follows: standard – Eco, ComfortK, Sport, Sport+ and individual driving settings. These customize the ride of the GLC Mercedes Benz for sale. If you go for the optional off road package then you will get a slippery mode for mud and sand, off road for hard surfaces like gravel and an incline mode for steep inclines and ramps. You will also get a trailer for towing on off road surface and lastly, if you take the air suspension option, you will get the Rock Assist mode that pushes up the suspension and locks up the car’s features so you can get out of a difficult to drive situation.

Added features

The G class Mercedes SUV has all the bells and whistles that the S, C and E classes poses. This includes the collision prevention, crosswind, attention and headlight assist systems.

What’s new here is the traffic assist which shows the speed limits, no entry, no overtaking signs on the car’s heads up display and will warn you when you are going the wrong way down a one way road. You will get active parking which will automatically shift the vehicle in a parallel parking space. Lastly there’s the optional driver assist package that comes with nice features like pedestrian detection and cross traffic warnings to keep you, and everyone else, safe on the road.
