The flagship Hyundai Santa Fe SUV has been relaunched with a new Elite package in South Africa. The latest Hyundai Santa Fe for sale has been revamped with updated design features, comfort, convenience and a host of new safety features. There are two model derivatives and a much more refined ride than before. Let’s talk about what the new Elite Package spec can do for you in our Hyundai Santa Fe review.

The family look

The enhanced Hyundai Santa Fe retains its family appeal and look. The car keeps its signature Hyundai hexagonal front grille that is nicely finished in chrome. There’s a new front and rear bumper that have redesigned fog and LED lights nicely framed with a new silver trim. There is a new design for the xenon projector headlamps with the rear lamps featuring a new LED graphic.

The new exterior hugely benefits from new nineteen inch alloy wheels. These extends the car’s more refined lines and gives the vehicle an almost athletic feel. The neat silver trim elements on the LED lighting carry over to the rear of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2015 and flow beautifully into the newly designed rims.

On the inside, you will find refinement and comfort. Updates have been made to the console cluster and the navigation system to make the car feel more sophisticated. The seating has been made wider too, 15mm have been added to the fore-and-aft of the second row of seats, taking its range up to 270mm. This allows for a lot more legroom in the rear whenever the third row of seats and/or cargo bay aren’t being used.

The boot space, which is now a power-operated tailgate, can be opened by using a switch on either door or a button on the keyless entry fob key.

Safety in this Hyundai SUV

In an attempt to change people’s perceptions on Hyundai Motor’s global safety philosophy, some new active safety features have been introduced to the Hyundai Santa Fe for sale. Hyundai has used class-leading quality equipment to enhance occupant and pedestrian safety.

One of these features is BSD (Blind Spot Detection) technology. The Hyundai Santa Fe 2015 radar technology actively monitors rear corners and blind spots. If an oncoming vehicle is detected, then the system will display a visual alert of the exterior mirrors. If you then put your indicators on, you will hear a loud sound warning you not to pull out into the next lane. This safety system works with another system called the Rear-Cross Traffic Alert system or RCTA. This system reduced the risk of colliding with approaching traffic when you are reversing out of a narrow parking bay for example. The same radar technology used in the BSD system will scan 180 degrees behind your car and check for approaching cross-traffic. The system will alert the driver visually and acoustically like the BSD system does.

The next feature is the Hyundai Santa Fe Smart Cruise Control function. This feature gives the driver a safer and more relaxed experience. When you press the cruise control button, the car will automatically maintain a set distance from vehicles ahead. The car will decrease or accelerate to a preset cruise line in prevailing traffic conditions.

Engine and transmission

The new Hyundai SUV uses a 2.2 CRDi diesel engine that gives off 145 kW of power and 436 Nm of torque. This engine has been mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, manual is offered as an option, that has very low CO2 emissions and low fuel consumption.

There are three driving modes, namely Eco, Normal and sport. Eco mode causes the gears to shift earlier on than normal which results in better fuel consumption with figures as low as 7,3 litres/100 km on the open road. The sport mode does the opposite whereby the shifts take place later on and the car can reach higher revolutions per minute.
