On the face of it
The Mazda 2 has not just had its exterior revamped, it has been totally remade. Mazda designed this car with a purpose. The inspiration was actually given a name by Mazda, they called it KODO which means the Soul of Motion. The wanted to capture the moment energy becomes motion. So Mazda set out to capture the graceful power of an animal about to pounce or a person jumping into action.
The new front end has a big, distinct, Mazda grille with a large bumper and new headlight cluster that you can see from the front and side views. The front end flows nicely into the rear view mirrors. The car’s soft lines curve back nicely from the front to the end of the car which ends in a great looking overhang.
Inside the cabin of the Mazda 2
The interior of the cabin is simple and very practical but its stylish at the same time. Everything feels soft and comfortable and you have been given all of the gadgets that you would come to expect from a great car. In the center you have a very nice mounted LCD screen which gives you the ability to control most of the car’s features with the aid of the center control dial that sits in the console or by using the touchscreen itself.
The driver sits in a very comfortable cockpit type seat with great visibility and access to all of the car’s features. In the back, you can see that Mazda has made space for the family. There is more than enough space and the boot is nice and deep with a great carrying capacity.
The drive
All of the Mazda 2’s variants are powered by a 1.5 liter engine. Depending on the model you buy, you will either get a manual or automatic gearbox and then there is a petrol and diesel engine variant. Both engines have great performance. The petrol engine performs best when in high revs and the diesel variant is perfect for cruising with plenty of torque in the lower engine ranges.

Features of the new Mazda 2
The new Mazda 2 has taken a lot of its inspiration from its bigger brother, the Mazda 3. This includes the SKYACTIV Technology. This technology has been used to make the engines a lot more efficient. It is achieved by building the engines with a selection of very lightweight materials. This means advanced engine development and incredibly efficient gearing. This lowers emissions as the engine is only doing what needs to be done and nothing more.
So instead of adding a turbo, like most car manufacturers do, Mazda has decided to keep their naturally aspirated engines. They believe that a turbo over complicates the design and cost of engines. You also don’t lose any power here. These engines perform just like their turbo charged cousins.

The Mazda two comes in four model variants that all have different prices with different features. We will start off with the base model and then work up to the top end model.

In the most basic Mazda2 for sale you get a lot of comforts. You get a 1.5 liter 16 valve DOHC S-VT petrol engine with the SKYACTIV-G technology with maximum power of 82 kW @ 6,000 rpm. A set of 15 inch steel wheels, Halogen headlamps, power windows, air-conditioning and an advanced keyless engine start button. In terms of interior, you will get cloth seats with Matte black accents on the console and door panels and a telescopic steering wheel that is adjustable.

This is the top of the line model spec. You get everything you did in the previous models and then a 1.5 liter in-line 4 cylinder 16 valve DOHC Diesel engine with the SKYACTIV-D technology. This engine puts out 77 kW @ 4,000 rpm with 250 Nm @ 1,500-2,500 rpm and a combined fuel consumption of 4.4 liters per 100km.
Then you get air-conditioning with the car’s climate control, satellite navigation, half leather seat trim and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) that keeps the car stable when cornering.
