The looks
Compared to the old Audi RS3 for sale in South Africa, the new A3 Sportback sits 25mm lower to the ground. Audi has also added 1.5mm to the wheel arches which makes the car a bit wider. It has a deeper front bumper, a new roof spoiler and matt aluminium side-mirrors. The new honeycomb grille has a gloss black finish with an aluminium frame and RS badging. They have also increased the size of the air intakes and tweaked the front to have a more sporty appearance.
Optional extras on the new Audi RS3 include one inch titanium or black alloy rims instead of the standard Audi RS3 19 inch five-spoked rims. A carbon engine cover and a choice of two styling packages, namely matt aluminium and high-gloss black.
It’s what inside that counts
The personality of this car shines through when you look beneath the surface. Inside the cabin you will find Nappa leather trimmed sport seats and a flat-bottomed leather infused RS multifunction sports steering wheel. The RS3 has durable steel pedals, leather door inserts and these inlays can be black, aluminium or carbon-fibre (depending on the trim style you have chosen).
The instruments, like the speedometer and navigation systems, are framed in black with black-faced dials and red needles. The aluminium-look shift paddles allow for excellent control and very quick gear changes. All of this means you will have a very sporty driving sensation every time you put your hands around the wheel.
Special RS optional extras on offer are very lightweight carbon-fibre bucket seats, which are a full 7kgs lighter than your standard seats. You can get built-in side airbags and a customised trim package with red accents on the seats, seat belts, floor mats and air vents.
Under the hood
Remember we said earlier that this is the most powerful Audi RS3 for sale ever? Well what we were talking about is a 2.5-litre TFSI that puts out 5550rpm and 270kW of power when you put your foot down. This is bolstered by 465Nm of torque and a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch. Audi’s heavily modified 2.5-litre TFSI will push this car from standstill to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds, and top out at a limited 250km/h – or 280 km/h, if you get the extras.
Audi claims that the Audi RS3 2015 has a fuel consumption rate of 8.1l/100km. This is achieved largely due to an energy recuperation system, demand-controlled oil pump and a start stop function. This has been done to make the RS3 more environmentally friendly and reduces the car’s CO2 emissions to just 189g/km
How does the Audi RS3 for sale handle?
In true Audi fashion, the vehicle has Quattro permanent all-wheel drive but the new Audi RS3 also has the ability to send more power to the rear axle, earlier than ever before in standard Audi’s. This means that you can actually power slide your all wheel driven RS3 whenever you feel the need to do so. To do this Audi has utilised an electronically controlled ‘center clutch’ to improve weight distribution. We have been told that this will send between 50 and 100 percent of the power to the rear axle.
The vehicle’s suspension has high-strength aluminium bearings. The rear axle has been built with a specially designed four-link construction structure. This uses rods of high-strength steel that can handle both longitudinal and lateral forces separately.
An optional extra you can ask for are magnetically adaptive suspension dampers, carbon-ceramic brake discs on the front axle and you can get the standard cross-drilled cast-iron discs mounted on aluminium carriers and gripped by eight-piston fixed calipers. This will turn your RS3 into a track racing superstar.
